One of cricket’s most iconic figures, Sachin Tendulkar, will be honoured with the BCCI’s esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award at the Board’s annual banquet on Saturday. Award for 2024 will go to the great batter who changed the game with his perfect technique and longevity.

Indeed, Sachin will be honored at the Naman Awards on Saturday. It is about time he got this honour, what has he not done for Indian cricket? He would be receiving the CK Nayudu award, per a BCCI source.

Tendulkar continues to be the top run-scorer in Test and ODI history with an incredible 664 international appearances, accumulating 15,921 runs in the longest format and a startling 18,426 in the 50-over game.

His records for most Test (200) and ODI (493) appearances remain unaltered, so underscoring his generational supremacy. In his career he also participated in one T20I. With his performances, Tendulkar inspired millions of people in India, so transcending mere numbers in influence on cricket.

Tendulkar is among a select group of prior honours recipients, given last year to great wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer and former India head coach Ravi Shastri.

Nearly ten years after he said goodbye to international cricket, his acknowledgement by the BCCI solidifies his position as one of the most revered sportsperson.

Tendolkar’s legacy

Considered as one of the best to play the game, Tendulkar debuted at sixteen during India’s 1989 trip to Pakistan. Tendulkar stayed the pillar of Indian batting order throughout the 1990s, giving outstanding performances against elite opponents worldwide.

Tendulkar, whose record sixth and last participation in the finale marks, was also a major player of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning side, having well-documented and several batting records alone.

At his best, his dominance was such that other teams would often declare that his was the wicket they valued above all, appreciating the psychological edge he gave India just by virtue of presence at the crease.

Designed to honor India’s first Test captain, Col. C K Nayudu, Tendulkar becomes the 31st recipient of the esteemed C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, founded in 1994.
