OpenAI unveiled o3-mini, its newest AI model. The company said it was the “newest, most cost-effective model” in its reasoning series and was best for STEM reasoning.
OpenAI’s o1 is good for general knowledge, but o3-mini is better for people who need to do technical jobs quickly and accurately.
“Like its predecessor, OpenAI o1, OpenAI o3-mini has been designed to be better at STEM reasoning.” OpenAI said in a blog post that o3-mini, with medium reasoning effort, matches o1’s success in math, coding, and science while responding faster.
The company also said that tests by expert testers showed that OpenAI o3-mini gives more correct and clear answers and is better at reasoning than OpenAI o1-mini. They also said that OpenAI o3-mini performed faster and more efficiently.
ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users can use o3-mini right away, and Enterprise users will be able to do the same this month. OpenAI o1-mini will be replaced in the model picker by o3-mini as well.
