Panama has informed India of the safe arrival of a group of Indians who were deported from the United States. The Indian mission in the country is collaborating with the host government to ensure their well-being after obtaining consular access to them.
X was the platform used by the Indian Embassy in Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua to disseminate the information on Thursday. However, the number of Indians arriving in Panama was not disclosed.
According to sources, the verification of Indians is required prior to their return to India, and the procedure typically requires a significant amount of time.
The United States government dispatched a larger group of 299 migrants to Panama, which includes the Indian contingent.
After President Jose Raul Mulino agreed that Panama would serve as a “bridge” country for deportees, these individuals arrived in the country on three separate flights last week.
The Trump administration has committed to the deportation of millions of individuals who entered the United States illegally. The Embassy of India in Panama, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica posted on X that “Panamanian authorities have informed us that a group of Indians have reached Panama from the US.”
“They are protected and secure in a hotel that is equipped with all necessary amenities.” The consular access has been obtained by the embassy personnel.
