Jennie, a K-pop phenomenon who is renowned for her affiliation with the group BLACKPINK, recently disclosed the release of her latest single. A 9-second-long teaser was published on social media on Tuesday, and the song “Like Jennie” is set to be released this Friday. Fans of the singer lauded the teaser; however, desi listeners were intrigued by its resemblance to the theme of Alia Bhatt’s character Rani in Karan Johar’s 2023 hit film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Did Jennie replicate Alia Bhatt’s theme?
The teaser for Jennie’s song highlights the use of thumping rhythms and vocals that chant “Jennie.” The beat and flow of the song bear a striking resemblance to Rani’s theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a fact that was not wasted on some fans. In response to the Like Jennie teaser, one individual tweeted Rani’s theme and wrote, “The copy paste (crying emoji) she’s shameless.” Another individual commented, “This is the same song; the vocals are identical.”

Many admirers were disappointed that Jennie was accused of plagiarism for a song that was composed by Pritam, who has himself been the subject of such accusations. “I am astounded that Jennie is plagiarizing Pritam, of all people.” One tweet read, “Bollywood is the most popular.” Another K-pop enthusiast tweeted, “Jennie of #BLACKPINK has imitated the song Rani Anthem from the film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which boasts Indian artist Pritam’s credits, in a manner that is indistinguishable.”

Fans assert that it is not necessarily a replica.
Nevertheless, a few users of X (formerly known as Twitter) were apprehensive. One individual stated that the song’s similarity does not inherently imply that Jennie copied Pritam, as the latter may have sampled an old Korean song for Rani’s theme, a practice he has also engaged in in the past.
