Officials say that during his two-day State Visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open more than 20 projects supported by India. These projects range from building up people’s skills to connecting communities through infrastructure.
Modi will also talk about new big building projects that will help the island nation in Southeast Africa become more democratic.
The building for the Civil Services College will be opened by both Prime Minister Modi and his Mauritian colleague, Navin Ramgoolam.
It was estimated that the building would cost 4.75 million USD to finish. In 2017, an agreement called an MoU was made for the project.
The Area Health Centre and 20 community projects, which cost about INR 7 crores to build, will also be e-inaugurated by Modi. Infrastructure for sports is also part of these neighbourhood projects.
„We have something called community development projects. These are small projects that are carried out right at the community level and very quickly. Some of these projects are also about sports. The Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, told PTI Videos, “We built football fields and other sports facilities that can be found all over Mauritius.”
In the meantime, different places in Port Louis are getting ready for the prime minister’s visit.
Bedouin Site Manager Rambojun Siddharth told PTI Videos, “Today, we are working to finish getting ready for the opening of the Civil Services College.” They are going to meet at the Cubical Sphere Auditorium, which is next to the College. There, the Indian Prime Minister and our Prime Minister will meet. Getting everything done before March 12 is our goal. He told India how grateful he was that they had paid for the project.
“The college is fully stocked with everything you need.” “Many chances will come up,” Rambojun said.
The National Archives and Library building, which is being paid for by India, is being built next to the college. One of the people working on the site for Varindera Construction Limited is Baljeet Sharma, who said that India has finished most of the jobs in Mauritius on time.
“Our company built most of the projects in Mauritius that were paid for by India. These include 956 housing projects, two area health centres, and medical clinics.” At the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, we are also building a centre for kidney transplants.
India has been on time with its projects, Sharma told PTI Videos.
On Monday, Prime Minister Modi talked about his trip to Mauritius. He said that the trip would start a “new and bright” era in relations between the two countries.
According to PTI Videos, on March 12, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a line of credit will be signed by the foreign minister of Mauritius.
According to Ramful, an MoU will be signed on a line of credit that is being given by India to pay for the repair of our water pipes.
There are a lot of development projects all over Mauritius that are funded by India. This shows how close the two countries are.
They agreed to work together on 96 community development projects all over Mauritius in January 2022. 51 of these have already been opened.
India gave Mauritius USD 353 million as part of a Special Economic Package in 2016. The money was used for five important projects: the Metro Express Project, the Supreme Court Building, the New ENT Hospital, the Social Housing Project, and giving kids digital computers.
With a USD 500 million Line of Credit in 2017, India also helped pay for 10 other projects. These included Phases I and II of the Metro Project, the Social Housing Project, the supply of gas-based incinerators and firefighting vehicles, an 8 MW Solar Power Plant, a new Forensic Science Laboratory, the National Archives & Library, and the Mauritius Police Academy.
