It was a big day for Israeli actress Gal Gadot, but the fighting between protesters made it less fun. On Tuesday, the actor was honoured with her own ‘Star’ on the Hollywood Walk of Fame outside the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles. Pro-Israeli and pro-Palestine protesters were right outside the venue, but the actor’s family and Hollywood coworkers were not there to see the important event in her career.

Protesters show up at Gal’s starry ceremony

Protesters yelled different messages while Gal’s Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and her first Hollywood co-star Vin Diesel sang praises of her. Some people waved “Hamas No Mas” signs, and others waved the Israeli and Palestinian flags. “Qatar controls Hamas, free the hostages,” read another placard.

As per a report in Variety, people also shouted, “Up up with liberation, down down with occupation” and a person said, “There’s no reason we should be celebrating an Israeli,” referring to Gal Gadot.

Even though it started 15 minutes late, the crowd’s chants could be heard the whole time.

Gal was joined by her husband Jaron Varsano and their four daughters: Alma, 13, Maya, 8, Daniella, 3, and Ori, 13 months. Gal said of her journey, “I’m just a girl from a town in Israel. This star will remind me that anything is possible if I work hard, have faith, and love what I do.”

Gal Gadot’s support for Israel

Gal has always spoken out in support of her home country Israel. She recently won an award from the Anti-Defamation League and in her speech, she said, “Never did I imagine that we would witness a day of such death and destruction of Jews in our lifetime. And never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States and other cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas but celebrating, justifying, and cheering on a massacre of Jews.”

Gal is now in the Disney Live Action movie Snow White. She plays the Evil Godmother, and Rachel Zegler, who is a strong supporter of Palestine, plays the title character. The movie has been controversial since it was first announced, but early reviews were mostly good.
