Goyal’s trip comes after U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s trip to New Delhi last month and as new efforts are made to reach a deal that will avoid U.S. taxes and please President Donald Trump’s administration.
An email asking India’s trade ministry for a reply was not answered right away.

Trump put a 90-day hold on tariff hikes for major trading partners on April 9, including a 26% tax on India. New Delhi is trying to reach a trade deal with the U.S. during this time.

During the break, India and many other countries will still have to pay a 10% base tariff.

Indian trade with the US was worth about $129 billion in 2024, making it India’s biggest business partner. India has a $45.7 billion trade advantage with the United States right now, which means that the trade balance is in their favor.
One source from the government said that Rajesh Agrawal, who is in charge of India’s trade talks with the U.S., will go with the minister and other top officials.

The sources spoke on the condition that they not be named because they were not allowed to talk to the public.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the U.S. in February, both nations agreed to work on the first segment of a trade deal by the fall of 2025, aiming for bilateral trade worth $500 billion by 2030.
