Announcing Wednesday “Jai Hind” demonstrations across 15 cities to protest the alleged politicising of Operation Sindoor by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress party
Congress spokesman Jairam Ramesh said at a conference of top leaders that the party intends to stage “Jai Hind Sabha” demonstrations in ten to fifteen states, with senior leaders posing questions aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
We have agreed to stage “Jai Hind Sabha” demonstrations in ten to fifteen states. Our senior party leaders will take part in these, and we will ask the Prime Minister various questions,” Ramesh remarked.
Rahul Gandhi presided over the conference, which featured Congress Working Committee (CWC) members in Mallikarjun Kharge’s absence. The committee voted on a resolution outlining the recent Pahalgam attack as posing “deeply troubling” concerns about an apparent breakdown in intelligence.
“Despite enhanced tensions and known threats in the region, the terrorists managed to execute a major attack, claiming precious lives,” the resolution said.
Noting, “The sudden halt, without clarity or communication, has led to speculation and concern across the country,” the resolution also questioned the sudden stop to India’s retaliatory action against Pakistan.
Declaring, “Operation Sindoor is the nation’s brand, not a political party’s brand,” Ramesh attacked the BJP for politicising the event. He also demanded an all-party conference and a special Parliament session after Modi decided to meet the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) chief ministers on May 25 instead of all chief ministers.
We have never politicised security concerns. On May 25 PM Modi is meeting NDA Chief Ministers; why not call every C Minister? Why is he not calling a special Parliament session, avoiding all-party gatherings, and quiet on important issues? Ramesh queried.
The BJP answered by labelling Congress’s comments as reckless. Leader of the BJP Sudhanshu Trivedi said challenging an ongoing operation compromises national cohesion.
“Raising queries during a continuous procedure calls one’s intention dubious. Such behaviour is not only wrong but also reckless at a moment when the country has to speak one voice.
