Entain has strengthened its digital arm by consolidating a technology development division in Hyderabad with a new office.

The opening also marks another milestone, officially introducing the gambling conglomerate’s domestic Indian rebrand from Ivy to Entain India.

Anthil Anbazhagan, Entain India Managing Director, said: “The rebranding along with the launch of our new Hyderabad campus reflects our evolution and positions us to better support Entain’s global ambitions with deeper integration, stronger talent engagement and a future-ready innovation ecosystem.”

The new Entain India facility has room for 2,000 permanent in-office workers, as well as capabilities to support a total of 3,400 high-skilled roles on a hybrid basis.

Hyderabad is a core artery for Entain’s global IT infrastructure, as it delivers more than 85% of the LSE-listed company’s software engineering and technology services. These include product development, platform engineering, experience design and advanced analytics.

Anbazhagan further noted Entain’s invested interest in the region by highlighting that Entain India has existed since 2001, and that 800 new people were hired just last year.

In addition to Hyderabad, the firm also operates office facilities with 100 employees in the city of Pune, which also work on platform architecture, AI-driven personalisation, and real-time trading engines tailored for regulated markets.

So far, India has played a purely tech production role in Entain’s strategic vision due to the market’s hostility towards gambling.

The country has enforced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 28% on all products and services, including gambling.

The tax, introduced in 2017, applies to all types of gambling and does not differentiate between games of skill and games of chance, forcing many international companies to step back from operating in the country.

A lack of a national framework on gambling has also led to a strongly fragmented market on a state-by-state basis, with only three of them opening their doors to the sector.

Telangana, the state where Entain’s Hyderabad office is located, is currently not one of them.
