28 trains were operated from the main cities under the Southern Railway for the Kumbh Mela, according to M Senthamil Selvan, CPRO of Southern Railways.
Selvan stated to a source, “We have operated 28 trains from the South Central Railway, from major cities under the Southern Railway.”
He also mentioned that three District Railway Managers (DRM) have been camping at Prayagraj to supervise the personnel and officers responsible for managing the railway facilities.
“Three DRMS are currently encamped at Prayagraj to supervise the staff and officers who are responsible for the management of the railway facilities.” He also mentioned that a total of 18,000 railway personnel have been deployed.
Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, praised the state police’s efforts to manage the unprecedented throngs at Maha Kumbh on Monday, describing it as a “Herculean task” that was being handled with “unmatched dedication.”
“Regardless of these obstacles, the UP Police personnel, from constables on the ground to senior officers, are working tirelessly to maintain law and order, assist pilgrims, and ensure a smooth flow of traffic with exceptional patience and skill.” He stated, “The management of this vast ocean of humanity is a Herculean endeavor, and each police officer is demonstrating an unparalleled commitment to ensuring that Maha Kumbh 2025 is a safe and seamless experience for all.”
DGP Kumar emphasized that Maha Kumbh is currently experiencing the largest gathering of humanity in history, with over 40 crore pilgrims having already participated in the sacred plunge at the Sangam and millions more expected to arrive each day.
“The sheer scale of this spiritual gathering has pushed the infrastructure of Prayagraj beyond its maximum capacity, making delays in traffic movement inevitable–not due to mismanagement, but due to the sheer volume of devotees,” according to him.
Additionally, Maha Kumbh devotees are ensnared in hours-long traffic, which social media users have dubbed the “world’s largest jam.”
This exhaustive arrangement is made in the wake of the tragic stampede that transpired on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya during the Maha Kumbh. The incident that occurred on January 29 has been the subject of an investigation by the authorities in Prayagraj.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, a significant religious event for Hindus, is currently ongoing at the confluence of the sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
