Although it is not as susceptible to significant earthquakes as regions such as Gujarat, the Himalayas, or Northeast India, the city is occasionally jolted by vibrations. These are typically sourced from seismic activity in adjacent regions, such as the Bay of Bengal, Nepal, or North-East India, rather than from faults directly beneath Kolkata.
