Recently, Congress leader Shama Mohamed got in trouble for calling Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma “fat” in a social media post. Now, he has spoken out in support of cricket player Mohammed Shami after he was criticized for not following roza during India’s Champions Trophy semi-final match against Australia. The argument started when Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, the head of the All India Muslim Jamaat, said Shami wasn’t fasting during Ramzan, which is called Roza.

The cleric’s comments seemed to come from seeing Shami drinking an energy drink during India’s game against Australia. This made him call the bowler “a criminal” for not fasting. In support of Mohammed Shami, Mohamed said that Islam does not require people to fast when they are doing physically demanding tasks like sports.

“During Ramzan, Muslims do something very important. We don’t have to fast when we’re traveling (Roza), which means Mohammed Shami is traveling and not at home. When he plays his sport, he might get really thirsty. No one tells you that you have to fast when you play a sport… What you do is very important. “Islam is a very scientific faith,” Mohamed told the ANI news agency.

Row over Mohammed Shami’s roza

One important thing that Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, said was that cricket player Mohammed Shami had done something wrong by not fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramzan. “He is guilty in Shariat’s eyes, and he shouldn’t have done this at all,” the Barelvi imam said. Shahabuddin said that Shami could be seen drinking something from a bottle on the field during Tuesday’s game against Australia. The video shows this. Shami was told to follow the rules of Shariat.

I believe that all Muslims should follow the rules of Shariat. In Islam, you have to fast. “According to Islamic law, if someone doesn’t want to fast, they are a sinner,” Razvi said.
