The ceremony was conducted at the proposed location of the new factory in Kharkhoda. The event was attended by Haryana State government officials, Kyoko Hokugo, the minister of the Embassy of Japan in India, Kenichi Umeda, the managing director of SMIPL, and Takashi Ise, the managing officer and executive general manager of motorcycle operations at Suzuki.
SMIPL has cumulatively produced approximately 9 million motorcycles since 2006, supplying the Indian domestic market and exporting to regions such as Latin America, Japan, and Europe.
In response to the increasing demand for motorcycles in India, SMIPL will construct a new facility to increase its production capacity in accordance with the market’s expansion. The new plant will have an initial production capacity of 750,000 units.
Honda Motors also disclosed its intention to expand one of its four motorcycle manufacturing facilities in India, which has an annual production capacity of 650,000 units, on May 26. The annual production of motorcycles in India is anticipated to increase by 1.6 million units if the Suzuki and Honda plans are followed.
Suzuki estimates that the new facility will require a total investment of $139.71 million. The company’s objective is to support the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative and continue to offer a variety of mobility options in India, a country that is currently experiencing economic development, through the construction of this new plant.
