On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his nation has consented to a moratorium with Iran in response to a proposal made by US President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu also expressed his appreciation to Donald Trump for his assistance in defending his country and for his participation in the elimination of the Iranian nuclear threat.
According to a senior White House official, Trump had facilitated a ceasefire between Israel and Iran during discussions with Netanyahu on Monday, while his staff, which included Vice President JD Vance, discussed the matter with Tehran.
According to the official, Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US special envoy Steve Witkoff were all involved in both direct and indirect communications with Iran.
Immediately following the threats of new attacks by both Israel and Iran, Trump declared that a “complete and total” cessation would be implemented in the near future.
THE CEASEFIRE DEAL AND THE MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT
After US bombers dropped 30,000-pound bunker-busters on Iranian underground nuclear facilities over the weekend, Iran launched missiles at a US air base, and no casualties were reported.
The official stated that Trump initiated negotiations with Israel and Iran shortly after the US strikes.
“He instructed his team on Saturday night to interact with the Iranians via telephone,” the official stated.
“Bibi, please retrieve me.” The official quoted Trump as saying, “We are going to establish peace.”
According to Reuters, the negotiations between Trump’s team and Iran ended in failure when Iran refused to relinquish its demand to continue enriching uranium on five separate occasions in the weeks preceding the conflict.
Trump declared on June 19 that he would determine the use of force by the United States “within two weeks.” However, by the afternoon of June 21, he had directed the United States to attack Iranian facilities.
Trump’s unprecedented decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites represented a departure from his long-standing pledge to refrain from militarily intervening in a significant foreign conflict.
The decision to participate in military strikes alongside Israel, a US ally, arouses apprehension among his right-leaning “Make America Great Again” political constituency, which has been steadfast in its commitment to avoiding foreign involvement.
The armistice was the result of a day of discussions that Trump held in the Oval Office. Netanyahu, who has advocated for increased US military involvement in the conflict, was addressed directly by him.
The official stated that Trump has “exhibited restraint” and has explicitly stated that he is prioritising the interests of the United States in his pursuit.
